Child Support Scheme
The aim of the Child Support Scheme is to provide for the continued maintenance and support for the children of the relationship. The Scheme also aims to minimise parental conflict over financial arrangements. It is important to keep these objectives in mind when approaching the issue of child support payments.
Much like every other aspect of family law, child support can be an emotive and fragile topic to broach. At New Way Lawyers, our experienced child support lawyers will guide you through the process of either coming to an agreement with your spouse about payment of – or applying for – child support. Our approach is always with the core understanding that the familial unit should be preserved to the greatest extent possible. We do not believe in an adversarial approach and will handle your matter with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Reaching an agreement
Unless the parties are able to reach an agreement, the Department of Human Services will calculate the amount of child support owed to the primary carer. Whenever possible it is best to reach agreement about child support arrangements.
We can assist you both in determining the type and amount of child support relevant to your situation and attempting to reach an agreement in this regard.
